Shortly after arrival, however, Mary unexpectedly went to work and was in a hurry to the hospital. She did not survive the birth.

When Bob received devastating news, the hospital informed him that since his newborn daughter was so young, he had to leave immediately to be with her.

The moment his plane landed, Bob rented a car and went directly to the hospital where his wife died.

Upon arrival, he was presented to a volunteer working in an intensive care unit-82-year-old widow named Meredith Sticks.

“What happened?” He asked anxiously as he entered her office.

“Please sit down, Mr. Hollis,” she said gently.

“I’d rather stand,” he replied, his voice is tense.

“I’m deeply sorry about your loss, Mr. Hollis,” she said solemnly. “Your wife has suffered complications in the birth of your daughter.”

Bob, overcome by grief, collapsed in tears while Meredith watched quietly and gave him room for processing his sadness.

After a few minutes she cleaned her throat and continued, “I understand that you came for a child, but I have to make sure you are ready to care for a newborn.”

After completing the necessary formalities, Bob was finally able to take his daughter home. At the airport, however, came across an unexpected obstacle.
